*First off, school has started. I cannot update every single night now (I'm sure you've noticed), I have pee to do. I will update every Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. You have permission to whip me if a forget. And yes, I'm updating at an odd time, but I have things to do tonight-
The Legend of Zelda series has many, many awesome items. I mean..they're only around 15 games or so to pick from. So I put a fun little list together of the coolest Zelda items. Now, when I say items, I mean things you must buy/find. Spells and equipment (swords and tunics) don't count. Only the things you find in dungeons. So here we go.
Number 10
Bombs, originally from the Legend of Zelda. I know you might be going "What, Bombs?" Well, think about it. Bombs are used in like nuclear war. Bombs are used to like, nuke countries and all that crap. I know games sometimes have smaller bombs to used, but Miyamoto went "Ya know, in this fantasy game, let's have this little kid use dangerous, horrible bombs!" You could go around and blow the crap up out of enemies and walls. They were amazing. They continue to be amazing to this very day. They've been in almost every single Zelda game (almost...) and Twilight Princess introduced different types to use. (well, so did Majora's Mask but they haven't appeared since) They small, blue, make a good blast, and can rape anything.
Number 9
The Magic Mirror from A Link to the Past and the Lens of Truth from Ocarina of Time. (and Majora's Mask) The Magic Mirror became the Lens of Truth so I smashed them into 1 category. It's original purpose was to enable Link to travel between the Dark and Light worlds. I always wondered how a mirror made a vortex appeared, but it did. It looked really cool in the art, but the images I found were too tiny to post. (and I kept finding porn, what?) Anyway, the Magic Mirror got a make-over a new name, and it became slightly creepier. It's new purpose was to see invisible objects. I love seeing invisible objects! It's really cool jumping on a platform, then turning the Lens off and walking around in mid-air. It makes you feel fancy even though you don't know where to actually go. (unless you are one of those people whose memorized where all the platforms are and you don't need to use the Lens anymore...) I'm actually sad this item has disappeared from the new Zelda games. They could even change it's purpose a little, rename it again or something.
Number 8
Bottles! I think they came from...hey, the original Zelda! Like bombs, bottles have been in almost every single Zelda. In the original, only potions could be put in. Now bugs, fairies (yay, abuse), lantern oil, water, fish, poes, and probably more stuff I don't remember. What a neat concept. Bottles. Normally, RPGs and such have bags or something. But nope, Zelda has bottles! Also, a whole bunch of glitches depend on bottles. (*looks at Ocarina of Time*) I mean...bottles. They're awesome. The name is awesome, they look awesome, and they are always useful. Bottles=cool.
Number 7
The Raft from Zelda 1 and 2. I don't know why the raft hasn't made an appearance since. It was a fantastic idea. I know swimming replaced it, but what about long water travel? (NO, the boat in Wind Waker and Phantom Hourglass do not count. That just replaced Epona) Why not have a seperate land from Hyrule or something? Link would have to find a raft to get across. It'd only be a small portion of the game. Or better water travel. Or...I dunno, something. It always seems like a cool idea to me.
Number 6
The Magic Wand from Zelda. This is the only game this item has ever had an appearance in. I personally LOVED this item. You could fire it and it'd make this kick ass noise! It wasn't too useful, but you could feel like a Wizrobe. You could also get a special book for it, then it'd shoot fire at the end of it's attack. (Then I'd be a dummy and run into the fire in my eagerness) But it's amazing. Now, I know there was an Ice and Fire rod in A Link to the Past, the babies to this Wand. But they aren't the same, not nearly as fun to use. I like pure magic, fun noises, and a happy Link swinging a stick. (I know Link's Awakening has a Magic Rod, but I haven't played the game...sorry)
Number 5
Masks, in Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask, and (a little) Wind Waker. I don't know whether you'd count this or not (as an "item") but I will. They were pretty cool in Ocarina of Time, had some funny conversations with them on. But Majora's Mask is the turning point. The whole game is about masks. They all do special things and some can transform you into different beings. This is one of the reasons why I think Majora's Mask is the best. You feel so damn proud once you've collected all the masks, then have gotten the Fierce Deity and just kick ass. Blowing this up, dancing, turning into a Deku, Goron, Zora, God, finding faries, marching, running fast, checking the mail, finding Kafei, and a whole bunch of other things; they do all this. Although it's mostly for heart piece collecting, that's ok, there's a bunch of side quests.
Number 4The Ball and Chain from Twilight Princess. This was odd to put in, but I love this weapon. It's not even that useful, it's just cool. Link must have some upper body strength to swung that bitch around. It's basically used to smash blocks in 1 dungeon...like I said, not very useful. But it's amazing. Run around with that bitch out...swing it around....bust some heads...awesome. Not much to say since it's used in 1 game for 1 dungeon, but I think it has amazing potential.
Number 3
The Flute/Ocarina/Wind Waker from almost every single Zelda game. (*glares at Twilight Princess*) It's a given now that the Zelda games WILL have an instrument and it's a slap in the face to not have one. (*GLARES AT TWILIGHT PRINCESS* That sissy piece of grass or whistle is NOT an instrument) Since the flute's humble, teleporting (and...black...thing...getting rid of) beginning's, the instrument is a huge part of Zelda games. They solved puzzles, and are sometimes a main part of the story. It fits an elf boy well. Some people did not like the Flute-Ocarina or Ocarina-Wind Waker deal, but changes are made, risks are taken. At least the Flute and Ocarina are both wind instruments. But that basic little melody played in the original game, will live on forever.
Number 2
The Hookshot/Longshot/Clawshot. Been in the major Zelda games since A Link to the Past. Seriously, how does Miyamoto come up with this stuff? "Well, it'll be this spring-loaded chain item. You can grab things with it and pull them to you, or you can't shoot to things and pull yourself to them!" What? Anyway, it's a cool weapon, and it makes a neat sound in A Link to the Past. It also stuns enemies, so it's like the boomerang but better. For some odd reason, the Hookshot got a make-over for Twilight Princess and called the Clawshot instead. You could also hold 2, made for some very interesting puzzles, I liked it. I do wish it'd kept it's original name though.
Number 1
The Blue Ring...from the original Zelda. Once you bought this, you could take more damage, not lose as many hearts, and Link's tunic turned white. The coolest item ever. I'm so sad it has never returned. True, you could just get a normal upgrade for your hearts, but you don't get the physical difference. Having a white Tunic makes you feel powerful. That's why Brawl is pretty cool, the colors of Link actually mean something. (they even have original colored for Toon Link) It's amazing. I love running around Hyrule in a white tunic and just beating the shit out of enemies. It's an end-game item too, it's expensive and awesome.
So there we go, the Top 10 Coolest Zelda items. Yay!
